TARAMAR is an Icelandic company that has created an award winning brand of premium handcrafted skincare based on marine compounds isolated from organic seaweed, kelp, and wild and organically grown herbs and vegetables harvested from the pristine nature of Iceland.
The Taramar Team
and our first lady, Eliza Jean Reid, discussing TARAMAR
TARAMAR was founded in 2010 by Professor Gudrun Marteinsdottir (Runa) and Professor Kristberg Kristbergsson (Kris), who set out to channel their more than 30 years of scientific expertise in marine and food science into the development of 100% chemical-free, natural and organic skin care products.
As both of the founders originate from the Marine and Food Science professional fields, the formulas they crafted are more similar to food than traditional chemically derived skincare.
All of our products are handcrafted and produced in small batches. Every detail has been meticulously thought out in order to design a green and sustainable production protocol from seeding and harvest to extraction and formulation, so that the vibrant and functionally active bioactives in our products are protected at all times. This protocol, that we registered under the name NoTox®, is unique and requires no controversial chemicals and no strong solvents or polluting compounds. The final products are protected with hurdle preservation technology, to eliminate all conventional preservatives and endocrine disrupting chemicals.
Starting in mid-winter, plans are made for the seeding season. All the plants are grown in pristine and excessively fertile volcanic soil on land that is organically certified. During the long summer days and under the midnight sun, the Icelandic herbs become infused with powerful compounds that we extract using slow cosmetic technologies. Some of these extracts take more than 6 months to create. These are truly unique and you can discover their deep nurturing effects in our creams.
TARAMAR’s headquarters and production facilities are in Sandgerdi, a small fishing village close to the International Airport.
